This month, we are learning all about the unwavering goodness of God. In the creation story, God crafted a perfect world and formed a special relationship with humans. Despite humanity’s sins, as seen in Cain and Abel’s story, God’s protection and love endure. God’s goodness shines through in Noah’s rescue from the flood and in God fulfilling His promise to Abraham and Sarah, bringing unexpected joy. Through these stories, God’s consistent goodness, faithfulness and love for humanity are evident, emphasizing His enduring care and blessings.
Sin had broken God’s perfect world. Prophets like Malachi and Isaiah foretold of a Rescuer who would save humanity from their sins. John the Baptist would prepare hearts for the Messiah and remind them of their need to be rescued. Mary trusted in God’s plan and became the one to bring the Rescuer into the world. The Rescuer’s name was Jesus. He is our ultimate Rescuer and the fulfillment of God’s promise to bring people back into relationship with God.
God promised a Rescuer.
Malachi 3:1–3, Isaiah 9:6–7
God has a perfect plan.
Luke 1:5–25, 57-80
Jesus is the Son of God.
Luke 1:26–45
Jesus was born to rescue us.
Luke 2:1–20
Jesus is King.
Matthew 2:1–12
This month, all our stories reveal the hypostatic union, or how Jesus is both God and man. Jesus grew up as a human kid learning about God but also amazing everyone with His godly wisdom. Jesus faced temptations just like any human, but He resisted them and proved His divine strength and authority. Jesus explained to Nicodemus that to have eternal life, Nicodemus needed to believe in Him as God’s Son. Jesus forgave sins and healed a paralyzed man, demonstrating His divine power and authority, while also showing His compassion and care as a human.
Jesus is fully God and fully man.
Luke 2:41-52
Jesus never sinned, but He understands our temptation.
Luke 4:1–15
Jesus gives eternal life.
John 3:1–21
Jesus forgives and heals.
Mark 2:1–12
The message that God knows us is reinforced over and over again in the Bible. Jesus told a group of His followers not to worry because God knows what they need. Jesus knew the heart of the woman who anointed His feet with oil and loved her deeply despite her sin. Knowing Peter’s fear when they were walking on water together, Jesus rescued him. Jesus wanted His disciples to know Him and see Him as their Rescuer just like God wants us to know Him.
Jesus knows us.
Matthew 5:1; 6:25–34
Jesus knows what we’ve done and loves us.
Luke 7:36–50
Jesus knows our fears.
Matthew 14:22–33
Jesus wants us to know Him.
Matthew 16:13–23
Time and time again, Jesus showed that He cared for everyone, regardless of their social standing. He paid special attention to the poor and the marginalized. Jesus spent His time with the outcasts of society and chose to be the ultimate sacrifice for everyone. For the sake of clarity, we will be using the NIV 1984 version of our memory verse for this month.
Jesus hears us and cares.
Mark 10:46–52
Jesus teaches us to care about others.
Luke 10:25–37
Jesus cares about our priorities.
Luke 12:13–21, 32–34
Jesus cares for everyone.
Luke 18:15-17; 19:1-10
Jesus chose to be our sacrifice.
Matthew 26:1-5, 20-35
Jesus was betrayed by His followers, beaten and died a cruel and torturous death. When He died, He took all of our sin on Himself and paid the ultimate price for our sins. As God, death would not defeat Him. Jesus rose from the dead! If we believe in Him for our salvation, we can be with Him forever! Jesus not only forgave us like He did Peter but wants us to have eternal life with Him. Jesus loves us!
Jesus loves us no matter what.
Matthew 26:36–75, Luke 22:54-62
Jesus loves us so much He took our place.
Matthew 27:1–2, 11–26
Jesus died and rose again.
Matthew 27:28-66; 28:1-10
Jesus gives us grace.
John 21
