In the beginning, there was God! He existed before everything else. The book of Genesis tells us about the beginnings of just about everything else. This month, we will learn about how God created the universe and the beginnings of His relationship with His created people. Genesis lays the foundation for who God is and how He loves us.
God is the creator.

God created people in His image.
Genesis 2:4-25
God provides a way to Him.
Genesis 11:1-9
God is faithful.
Genesis 13-14:16
Israel’s problems didn’t end once they had a king. They continued to disobey God. God raised up prophets who carried His messages to the people, warning them to follow Him and of coming consequences. Just as the prophets told, Israel was taken over by enemies and exiled from their homes. Still, God showed the people His holiness and how great He is over all of their circumstances. From visions of His holiness, to a dramatic rescue, to His compassion towards a rebellious prophet, to working through His people to restore what was broken, God was near to His people.
God is holy.
Isaiah 6
God is with us.
Daniel 3
God is compassionate.
Jonah 1-4
God Works Through His People.
Ezra 1-3, Nehemiah 1-2
Throughout the Old Testament, God promised that He would send a Savior, One who would rescue the people from sin. He kept that promise by sending His Son into a human family. As fully human and fully God, Jesus would be the perfect sacrifice for our sin. This month, Jesus will be in the spotlight as kids learn more about who He is and how He could be God’s promised Savior.

Jesus called people to follow Him. He assembled a group of twelve and many others followed as well. Some turned away, but Jesus taught how to be a resilient disciple. He taught His followers how to pray, the importance of God’s Word changing us, and how to put Him first. Jesus still calls each of us to be resilient disciples as well.

Throughout His ministry, Jesus demonstrated His power over nature, sickness, evil and even death. He showed His power, but also that He was near to people in their darkest moments. This month kids will learn that though we live in a world broken by sin, Jesus is near to us and one day He will make all things new. Our lives and His work in our world are a work in progress.

Jesus surprised people throughout His whole ministry by doing things no one expected. The people expected the Savior to come as a warrior who would conquer their political enemies, but Jesus came as a king who would serve and love all people, focused on God’s kingdom, not the world’s kingdom. Kids will celebrate the greatest surprise of all – Jesus rose from the dead!
