Brite Monthly – Preschool: December 2024

This Month’s Biblical Theme Is:

Jesus is Our Rescuer

Sin had broken God’s perfect world. Prophets like Malachi and Isaiah foretold of a Rescuer who would save humanity from their sins. John the Baptist would prepare hearts for the Messiah and remind them of their need to be rescued. Mary trusted in God’s plan and became the one to bring the Rescuer into the world. The Rescuer’s name was Jesus. He is our ultimate Rescuer and the fulfillment of God’s promise to bring people back into a relationship with God.

Monthly Memory Verse: For a Savior is born, who is Christ the Lord.. (Luke 2:11)

Prophecy and Silence (Malachi 3:1–3, Isaiah 9:6–7)

Throughout the Old Testament, prophets foretold the Rescuer’s coming. 400 years passed in silence until the arrival of the anticipated Rescuer.

Zechariah and Elizabeth (Luke 1:5–25, 57-80)
An angel prophesied of a son who would prepare the way for the Messiah. Zechariah’s doubt led to his temporary silence until after the birth when he affirmed John’s name.

Mary and the Angel (Luke 1:26–45)
The angel Gabriel told Mary that she would have a son, Jesus. He would be the Son of God who would reign forever. This baby was the Messiah that God had promised long ago.

Jesus is Born (Luke 2:1–20)
Mary and Joseph journeyed to Bethlehem where Jesus was born and placed in a manger. Angels proclaimed this joyous news to shepherds, declaring Jesus as the Savior! The shepherds hurried to see Him, glorifying God and spreading the news.

Magi (Matthew 2:1–12)
Wise men followed a star to find Jesus. When they found Him, the Magi presented gifts to Jesus, then avoided Herod upon being warned in a dream.

This month’s Unit Title is: A Rockin’ Christmas

This month is all about making a joyous noise! The heavenly host filled the night sky with song. Embrace this joyous noise by how you decorate your space. Be creative with using old CDs, sheet music and twinkle lights! Consider making a Christmas tree or snowman using an old drum kit. Lean into the joy of music by hanging a disco ball and starting your time together with a mini dance party.

Teaching Kids about the Gospel:

The gospel is the good news. God wants everyone, even preschoolers, to know this good news.

Here’s the Gospel in four words: God, Us, Jesus, Trust.

God

God is a loving God who is all-powerful and great. He knows and sees everything and rules over everything. God created all people in His image, and we are special to Him.

Us

But we have sinned, and our sin separates us from God. What is sin? Sin is anything we think, say or do that disobeys God.

Jesus

God loves us so much, He sent His one and only Son, Jesus. Jesus came to save us by dying on the cross for our sins. Jesus rose again three days later and is alive!

Trust

God gives salvation, rescuing us from our sin, to everyone who places their trust in Jesus as their Savior. What is trust? It means that we rely on what Jesus did.
