Authority of Scripture

This week’s Brite lesson helps kids discover that the Bible is more than just another book. It is God’s Word, and through it we learn who God is, how much He loves us, and His plan to rescue us through Jesus.

Kids are growing up hearing lots of different ideas about what is true and how to make good choices. This week, we’re helping them see that God’s Word is trustworthy and gives us a firm foundation for life.

One of the best ways to help your kid value God’s Word is to read it together. This week, spend a few minutes reading a Bible story together. Ask your kid what they learned at church and remind them that every time they open the Bible, they are learning more about God and His love for them.

Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home: 

Discuss: Does everyone in the world believe that they should do what the Bible says?

Discuss: Why might some people think it doesn’t matter what the Bible says?

Discuss: What does God have to say about that?

Say: You may have heard people say that the Bible is just an old book that doesn’t apply to today. Some people think the Bible shouldn’t tell them how to live their lives. Sometimes this is because they don’t like something God’s Word says or the Bible disagrees with something in their lives. Just because we don’t like something doesn’t mean it isn’t true. The Bible comes from God. In 2 Timothy 3:16 Paul writes: All Scripture is breathed out by God. God directed men to write down His words. The Bible is true and is the final say, and that isn’t dependent on if people choose to agree. Sometimes people misunderstand the Bible and assume it is just a list of dos and don’ts to take all the fun out of life. They don’t understand that the Bible teaches us how awesome God is and how He knows life works best for all of us.
