Disagreements
Kids are no strangers to disagreements. Disagreements are a part of life and may even happen in your family. In this week’s Brite lesson kids will learn about a serious disagreement between the Israelites. They were unable to work through the issues because they were focused on their own opinions instead of what God wanted. When your kids disagree with others, help them talk it out and help them see God can work through challenging relationships. He is always there to give us wisdom and comfort when dealing with disagreements. Seeking His way is always wiser than fighting for our own way.
Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:
Discuss: Who has had a tough disagreement with a family member or friend before?
Discuss: What are some feelings that people have when they disagree?
Discuss: What do you think God has to say about that?
Say: Relationships are hard. We’ve all experienced disagreements before, whether they have been about something big or small. Romans 12:18 says: If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. We should look for opportunities to keep relationships peaceful, but this doesn’t always happen. Matthew 18 gives us some good steps when we disagree with someone. We should talk to them first. Many times disagreements are just misunderstandings or minor issues that became big deals. If talking to someone one on one doesn’t help, we should ask a trusted friend or grown-up to help. We can always trust that God is with us, even if we are having a tough time with others. We can seek His wisdom for how to work through tough times with others.
