Fact vs. Fiction?
As kids grow, they begin learning the difference between pretend and what is real. They practice this every day through play, stories, jokes, and what they learn at school. Asking questions and sorting out what is true is a normal and healthy part of how kids grow.
This week’s Brite lesson helped kids understand why the Bible is different from any other book. They learned that the Bible helps us understand who God is and teaches us what is true about Him.
As you talk with your kids this week, encourage their questions. Remind them that the Bible is God’s Word and the best way we have to get to know Him. It tells us true things about God and His love for us.
Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:
Discuss: What is the difference between fact and fiction?
Discuss: When you watch videos or television, what makes it hard to determine what is true and what is fiction?
Discuss: What do you think God has to say about that?
Say: Today we discussed how we can learn about God’s goodness through His creation and His Word. Sometimes it can be hard to know what to trust when we get so much information from so many different places. We read books, scroll social media and it feels overwhelming. How do we know fact from fiction? If you have a lot of questions like this, that’s okay. God wants us to bring our questions to Him. When we explore and ask questions, we find that the Bible is true and God is trustworthy. John 17:17 says, “Your word is truth.” Sometimes it just takes some time to trust it yourself. That’s why we have each other. We can explore and learn God’s Word together. By doing this, we can help each other be strong in our relationships with God.
