Fear
This week’s Brite lesson reminds kids that Jesus is with us when we are afraid. Kids are learning that Jesus is all-powerful and that they can turn to Him when they feel scared.
Kids can be afraid of all kinds of things. Sometimes those fears may not seem like a big deal to us, but they can feel very real to a kid. When your kid shares something they are afraid of, try not to quickly dismiss it or tell them there is nothing to worry about. Listen to what they have to say and remind them that Jesus cares about what they are feeling.
This week, ask your kid if there is anything they have been afraid of lately. You might share something that has scared you too. Pray together and thank Jesus for being with you when you are afraid.
Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:
Discuss: What are some things kids your age are afraid of?
Discuss: How do you react when you are scared?
Discuss: What do you think God has to say about when we are afraid?
Say: The Bible says “do not be afraid” over 300 times. God knew that fear would be a big struggle for all of us. Some of us struggle with smaller fears. We don’t like snakes or walking in a dark hallway. Some of us really struggle with bigger fears, perhaps fear of what’s going to happen to us or fear of being around new people. If that’s you, know that you aren’t alone. God understands your feelings and wants you to talk to Him about it. It’s also okay to talk to an adult you trust about what you are feeling. Not only can people help you, but you know you are not alone because Jesus is always with you. Psalm 56:3 says: When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. This verse is great to remember and repeat when fear seems overwhelming. Jesus is more powerful than everything we face, and He is right beside us always.
