Is God Even Real?
Even in Christian homes, kids can have different thoughts and questions about faith. Some may quietly wonder if God is real, even if they don’t feel comfortable saying that out loud. Questions and doubts can come from many places, including personal experiences and what kids see or hear in the world around them.
This week’s Brite lesson reminded kids that we can thank God for all He has done and for His steadfast love. They learned to notice ways God is living and active in the world, in their own lives, and in the lives of others.
As you talk with your kids this week, encourage honest conversation and curiosity. Help them name ways they see God at work, and reassure them that questions are okay as they grow in their faith.
Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:
Discuss: Do you think all kids believe God is real?
Discuss: What are some reasons people might not believe God is real?
Discuss: What do you think God has to say about that?
Say: There are many people in our world who don’t believe in God. Maybe their family doesn’t believe. Maybe something happened in their lives that made them feel God couldn’t be real. Maybe they just have trouble believing in something they can’t see. You may have wondered sometimes if God really is real. God tells us about Himself in creation and in His Word, but believing in Him also requires faith. Faith is trusting and believing even when we can’t see. Each person has to decide for themselves that God is real and that they want to have a relationship with Him. If you have doubts, it is okay to talk to God and a trusted adult about them. You can also look at all God has done in the world and in your life. Psalm 66:5 says: Come and see what God has done: He is awesome in His deeds toward the children of man.
