Is the Bible Relevant?
Our kids are growing up in a culture that does not believe the Bible is relevant for today. Kids may have heard that the Bible is a fairy tale or that there’s no proof that it is different from any other book. Some may have heard the Bible is too old to guide us in living our lives. In this week’s Brite lesson, kids will learn that the Bible is God’s message and is completely true. God’s Word is just as relevant today as when it was written. Listen for your kids’ reservations about Scripture. Encourage them to ask questions and to research on their own. Point them toward resources such as The Case for Christ for Kids or Cold-Case Christianity for Kids. Most of all, encourage them to read God’s Word to discover His truth for themselves.
Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:
Discuss: Have you ever heard someone talk about not believing the Bible was true? What were their reasons?
Discuss: Why might some people think the Bible is more like a fairy tale?
Discuss: What does God have to say about that?
Say: You may have heard people say the Bible is too old to matter to us today. Some people may say there is no proof the Bible is more important than other books. Some people say the Bible isn’t true because they disagree with something it says. 2 Timothy 3:16 says: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. Every word is true, and every word applies to our lives today. He shows us who He is and the right way to live. Scholars have shown the Bible is a reliable historical document. Really old copies of the Scriptures have been found that are the same as what we have today. If you ever wonder about trusting the Bible, get an adult to help you do some research. God is faithful, and we can trust His Word.
