Loneliness

Loneliness is something many kids experience today. Changes in routines, time spent apart from others, and fewer opportunities for deep connection can leave kids feeling isolated, even when they are surrounded by people. Some kids may not know how to name these feelings, but they still feel the weight of being alone.

This week’s Brite lesson taught kids that God desires to dwell with His people and that they are never truly alone. They learned that God is always near—loving them, helping them, and choosing to be with them no matter what they are feeling or facing.

As you talk with your kids this week, encourage connection and belonging. Help them notice others who may feel left out and remind them that relationships matter. Most importantly, remind your kids that God is always present with them and that they belong to Him.

Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:

Discuss: Can you share about a time that you felt lonely?

Discuss: Who can you talk to when you feel lonely?

Discuss: What do you think God has to say about that?

Say: A lot of people feel lonely these days. We spend a lot of time on screens, but this isn’t the same as having real friendships with people. It may feel harder to make friends or hang out with others. God wants us to connect with other people. Maybe this week you can make a point to talk to someone new, especially someone who might be lonely. The Bible shows us that when we feel lonely, we can talk to God. David talked to God when he was lonely and you can too. Psalm 25:16 says: Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
