Money

This week’s Brite lesson reminds kids that Jesus is worth more than anything else. While money and possessions are part of life, our greatest treasure is knowing and following Him.

It’s easy for kids to think that having the newest toy, the coolest clothes, or the next thing on their wish list will make them happy. This week, we’re helping them see that the things we own don’t last forever, but a relationship with Jesus does.

This week, ask your kid what they learned at church and talk about the blessings God has already given your family. Thank Him together for His care and ask Him to help your family keep Jesus first.

Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:

Discuss: Is it wrong to have a lot of money?

Discuss: When can having money cause a problem?

Discuss: What do you think God has to say about that?

Say: Having money isn’t a problem. Sometimes God blesses people with money. The problem comes in when money becomes the most important thing. In Matthew 6:24 Jesus said: “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” Sometimes money can become very important to us, even as kids. Everything we have belongs to God. Anything He gives us is a gift and should be used with wisdom and generosity. We can honor God with our money and always put Him first.
