Other Gods
Our kids are more exposed to different beliefs than ever before as social media has made our world smaller. Because of this, kids may have mixed views about other religions, including possibly believing that all gods are the same. In this week’s Brite lesson, kids will learn how Paul was also in a culture that worshiped many gods. He shared about how the Lord is the one true God. You can also help kids in your family know He is the one true God. Gently correct misconceptions and point out how believing in Jesus is unique from other religions’ beliefs. Remind kids that God loves all people and wants everyone to know the truth.
Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:
Discuss: Have you learned about Greek mythology in school?
Discuss: Do people worship other gods today?
Discuss: What do you think God has to say about that?
Say: The stories of Greek mythology have some fascinating characters and storylines. You may have learned about these in school, seen them in movies or read about them in books. These were the gods and goddesses that the people of Athens worshiped. Today there are people who worship other gods too. Some people who follow Hinduism worship multiple gods. Some tribes worship parts of nature. Some people think it doesn’t matter whom you worship, as long as you worship something. John 17:3 says: And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. Despite what others in the world may think, there is only one true God. Believing in Jesus is the only way to go to heaven. Learning about other religious beliefs can be interesting, especially something like Greek mythology, but we can trust that the only stories that are 100 percent true are the stories in the Bible about the one true God.
