Sharing Jesus With Others
A startling 47 percent of American millennials indicated they believe that it is wrong to share their faith with someone of a different faith in hopes that they will share your faith.* Today’s culture portrays the idea that it is hateful to disagree with what someone chooses to believe in. Kids face pressure to accept all belief systems. This idea can be an obstacle to sharing the Gospel. Help kids see that it is important to respect others’ beliefs, but the most loving thing we can do is share the truth of Jesus. Every single person desperately needs Jesus. It is our call to love others and share the Gospel in a fallen world.
Here’s how we discussed this topic and how you can discuss it at home:
Discuss: Do you know people who don’t believe in Jesus?
Discuss: What do they believe in and how is it different?
Discuss: Have you ever tried to talk about Jesus to someone who believed differently?
Say: You may have even heard that it’s wrong to share the good news of Jesus with someone if they believe something different because it’s mean or it will hurt their feelings. It’s true that we shouldn’t be mean or rude. God is a loving God, and as followers of Jesus, we need to show His love to others. Jesus is for all people and all people need Jesus, so the most loving thing we could do is tell someone about Jesus in a respectful and loving way. Jesus made a way for all people to be in right relationship with God again and to give us an abundant life (John 10:10). It won’t always be the easiest or most comfortable conversation, but as followers of Jesus we are given the awesome responsibility to share the good news of Jesus with the world, even when it is difficult or scary.
